The Official Visit Of The Director General Of The Executive Board Afghanistan Atomic Energy High Commission To Austria And The Czech Republic

Dr.Tahir Shaaran Director General of the Executive Board Afghanistan Atomic Energy High Commission (Afghanistan’s Atomic Energy Agency) participated in IAEA meeting on January 28-29, 2019 regarding the survey and study of nuclear activities in 36 less developing countries and their successful experiences as well as the analysis of the problems and challenges in these countries in relevant areas.

During this visit, Dr. Tahir Shaaran met with the International Atomic Energy Agency's technical departments, including the safety and security of radioactive materials about use of nuclear technology to prepare groundwater maps of Kabul and other parts of the country. He also shared the research report of the Afghan Atomic Energy Commission’s specialists in the field of radioactivity in Kabul Qasabah Mountains with IAEA authorities and invited them to collaborate in a closer look in this area.

During this meeting, the Afghan delegation discussed with the IAEA authorities regarding the Afghanistan-specific projects for the years 2019 to 2021 in the fields of health, agriculture, water and energy and safety of radioactive contamination, and sought to find practical ways for the successful implementation of the mentioned projects, lastly the both parties agreed. They also discussed problems and obstacles about the maladjustment of previous projects specified to Afghanistan. The IAEA officials have undertaken to host several educational and scientific visit programs for Afghan experts on the use of nuclear technology inside and outside Afghanistan.

It should be noted that with serious follow-up of the Executive Board of Afghan Atomic Energy High Commissions experts in the last few months, Afghanistan has officially become a member of Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). At a meeting that Dr. Shaaran had with authorities of Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization, was approved that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is going to install a server computer in order to monitor the nuclear activities of neighboring countries based on the study of earthquakes recorded on the world server computer installed in Afghanistan.

The Director General of the Executive Board of Afghanistan Atomic Energy High Commission, following his Austrian trip, had another official visit to the Czech Republic on April 4-5, 2019.

Dr.Tahir Shaaran met with a number of semi-governmental companies in the Czech Republic, including the IGV Company operating on the use of nuclear technology, in order to cooperate with Afghanistan in the preparing  the plan for the use of nuclear technology in industrial sector, as well as the study of radioactive substances in the waters of Afghanistan.

The issue of the Afghanistan Ministers’ council determination concerning the use of Gamma Irradiation Facility to prevent the deterioration of dry and fresh fruits and disinfect medical equipment using in hospitals and medical clinics was perused on this trip.

During this visit, the Director General of the Executive Board of Afghanistan Atomic Energy High Commission met with officials from the Technical University of Prague in order to provide the scholarships and fellowships for a number Afghan student in the field of nuclear physics at the university. Also a meeting was held with the specialists of small transportable reactors in order to get information about the latest scientific advances in this regard.
